Literature Text

They say I'm alive,
But why is there a lack of a heartbeat in my chest.

I'm praised for my hard labor
When really I'm still in bed
asleep,
dreaming this nightmare
called a life.

My melody is pleasing to them;
My songs of lament.

I force a grin,
Less they unearth the truth of my agony.

Truth is that my love
Was not enough to keep you
Here next to me.

My love was a breeze to
Tickle your ear.

My arms were like mist,
For you escaped them so easily.

And when my heart shined for you to see,
You held up your hand,
To cover your eyes.

You walked away with my heart
In your breast pocket

I know that if my story was told
All would find fault in you

When it is I to blame for not loving you
More deeply,
More purely,
More truly,
More bravely
And last, but most important,
More openly.
First poem I ever wrote, so I beg for mercy beforehand. The title is inspired by the myth of the Greek maid called Echo who was cursed never to speak her own words, but the words of others and was thus unable to tell the man she loved how she felt. The person speaking in the poem felt insufficient for the person of their affection and lost them.
Love to know what everyone thinks if no one minds.

It's brilliant, beautiful and moving. I also can relate to it as well.
